This stop-motion animation flick may seem to be geared for kids, but any kid that watches this will likely end up with nightmares.  Based on the equally disturbing book by Neil Gaimain, Coraline is simply the story of a young girl trying to earn her parents’ attention.  Lucky for her, she finds a parallel dimension of sorts where her parents want nothing more than to spend time with her.  Unlucky for Coraline, staying in this new world means she’ll have to trade her eyes for buttons, which will put her under the rule of the Other Mother, who happily traps children’s’ souls in marbles and sends her spider- like hand chasing after Coraline back in the real world.  Things work out in the end, and Coraline herself is a wonderful example of independence and curiosity, but it may be hard to see all the good things in this movie hidden behind the button eyes.  Trust me, they’re creepier than they sound.
