A family favorite.  It’s the story of the famous friendly ghost as he helps his first human friend deal with her new school and her ghost-hunting dad, who’s still grieving his wife’s death.  The things Casper and his uncles can do as ghosts are fun to see, but there’s something inherently sad about the fact that they’re ghosts at all, especially once you learn how Casper himself died.  But there’s also something quite hopeful as Kat and Casper work together to help Casper remember and to help Kat become happy in her new home, and their friendship is really the best part of the movie.  Their dance at the end is bittersweet, but you can’t help but love it.  While this film may be heartwarming than it is scary, there’s still a lot of ghostly tricks to put you in the Halloween spirit—pun fully intended.
