The First Book of January

The first book I read this year “Compulsion” by Martina Boone.  The book wasn’t quite what I had thought going in, but it turned out to be so much better.  Family curses, scheming cousins, romance, and mystery: Barrie’s story of coming to her new home at Watson Plantation and all the secrets that entails is a great Southern Gothic YA read, although it reads more like “Gone with the Wind” than most other YA books.  I wanted to share that the next book in the series, “Persuasion,” had it’s cover reveal yesterday:

Isn’t is pretty? I love the purple shading (the first book was orangish), and I love that Barrie and Eight are a bit clearer in this shot, indicating that we’re getting to know them more, but they’re still somewhat hidden in shadow.  I’m sure that means we still have a lot more secrets to uncover!  Mundie Moms, one of my favorite blogs for info on new book releases, has a short interview with Ms. Boone as well as the trailer for “Compulsion” and a giveaway for an ARC of “Persuasion."  If you’re interested, be sure to check out their page and all the other blogs participating in the scavenger hunt for your fix until the release in October!
